Tips!

Through doing further CSS and learning about Div Tags in lecture today, I learnt some useful tips,

Tip 1 - Always give each of your pages a title, the reasons being if you don't title your pages, once you open them in a browser all the tabs will be named the same thing and you may know what page your on but if you have a viewer coming to your site for the first time, it will confuse them. Is well titling your pages helps with Search Engine Optimisation and bookmarking.

Tip 2 - Try and stick to lowercase lettering for when giving web pages titles or saving them, I found that using uppercasing isn't always reliable for example when I tried to access a folder on my website, the browser kept showing an error page and this was because I saved my web page under the name of "Index.html" rather than "index.html".

Tip 3 - Like Tip 2, Never start an I.D. name with a number or uppercase lettering.

Tip 4 -
Internal style sheets – you have to individually update each page

External Style Sheets – you have a separate CSS page that edits every page on your website

So it's best to make an external style sheet if you have the same layout for each of your pages because it'll save you time when editing a certain criteria on individual page that all apply to every page that has that CSS rule.

The Internet Infrastructure

Taken from the article "How Internet Infrastructure Works" by Jeff Tyson,
"It is a global collection of networks, both big and small. These networks connect together in many different ways to form the single entity that we know as the Internet. In fact, the very name comes from this idea of interconnected networks"

Through reading this article, it gave me the basic understanding of the internet's infrastructure and how the internet is a network of networks and even simply through posting this onto my blog, I'm connected to several networks that are allowing me to do this.

Websites Content Layout (Template)

After drawing out sketches of my websites content layout, I re-done the sketches in Microsoft Power Point, showing what each pages of my website would look like. It's not a final draft, fonts and certain specifics haven't been chosen but its a rough guideline to what I want my website to look and navigate like.

Websites Content Layout & Description (Sketches)

After doing a first draft for my home page, I then moved onto designing the layouts for my other pages that would be included on my website and giving them titles. For example I should not name my home page "home.html" instead it's preferred I name it "index.html" because index.html is default, web servers automatically recognise this; home.html would have to be included in the domain name for the servers to recognise it the home page. And by simply choosing the home.html name, I'd be adding on them vital few extra seconds to the users time which they might not have. I'd rather them have straight access into my website.

Page contents:

Home Page (index.html)- Overview of my website, displaying what content the viewer can access, the link called "My Blog" will take the viewer directly to my  external personal blog page.

About Me (aboutme.html) - Auto-biography on my current music career as an artist and music technologist.

The Music (themusic.html) - Page displaying all my current and previous tracks, where the viewer can listen to them and also download them at the same time.

The Photos (thephotos.html) - A portfolio of me performing and working on productions.

The Videos (thevideos.html) - Embedded music videos, interviews, live performances and fan updates.

The external links will take the viewer to my social networking accounts and they will also be able to join my mailing list.

Home Page Design

I started to draw up my first plans of my websites home page, it would be a fixed webpage where all the content would be contained inside the rectangular shape which I'm holding in my hands in the sketch below. Facebook, Twitter and Youtube link buttons would be added to the bottom right hand corner and by clicking on the 'YouFoundFame.com' title, it would take the user back to my home page if they were on a different page.

Sketch was then re-done in Microsoft Word (below)
