After reading the chapter on interface design, the key points I gathered from it on how to make your website user friendly are,
Point 1 - The user wants to have the confidence that when visiting your website they'll find the content their looking for in a reasonable amount of time, the navigation can't be a time waster.
Point 2 - The user should be able to return to your home page and other content pages from the page their on straight away, so creating a website with a content menu is crucial, content should be a click or two away.
Point 3 - Don't baffle the user with a weird home page otherwise they might just hit the back button then you've just lost a potential customer.
Point 4 - If this is your profession and your setting up a business then treat your website as part of the business, make it look professional and not sloppy!
Point 5 - Always, always make sure every link on your website works, check this frequently just to be safe.
